About Us
Shruti Arora is a qualified Birthlight Baby Yoga teacher, Ayurvedic practitioner and Breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
Having worked in the IT industry for over 10 years, Shruti decided to make a dramatic career change. She embarked on a 3 year full-time degree in Ayurvedic Studies at Thames Valley University, London. The course taught pure Ayurveda and Yoga under the guidance of some of the most experienced Ayurvedic Doctors. After obtaining her Honors degree, and following the birth of her first baby Shruti further crystallised her knowledge and practical skills with a 6 month hands-on internship at a leading South Indian Ayurvedic hospital.
After the birth of her second child, Shruti decided to concentrate on applying Yoga and Ayurveda to babies, young children and mothers. An extra Baby Yoga qualification was a natural progression.
Shruti is also a qualified Breastfeeding Peer Supporter and is currently volunteering at baby groups.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is the worlds oldest known medical science. 'Ayu' means life and 'veda' meas knowledge, so literally it is the science of life.
Ayurveda explains how each individual is a unique composition of elements and specifies the diet and lifestyle practices necessary for people to keep themselves healthy and in harmony with their environment.
Using Ayurvedic principles, ailments such as digestive disorders, skin and congestive conditions can be successfully treated. After determining your or your child's constitution, (vata, pitta or kapha), tailored diet and lifestyle advice can be given. Ayurvedic herbs and foods, oil treatments, yoga and massage may also be used.
Aims of Ayurveda
- To maintain the health of the healthy
- To cure disease and restore health
Dr. Gowri Motha's 'Gentle Birth Method' and 'Gentle First Year' are based on the principles of Ayurveda and are a good read for any parent interested in Ayurveda.
